What does your role involve?
I support the HSEQ Manager and Quality and Compliance Manager in all areas of the business relating to health, safety, environment, and quality, including the implementation of the HSEQ Management System.
I also provide HSEQ guidance and advice to our site managers, supervisors, employees, subcontractors, supply chain partners and clients, as well as assist in the review and maintenance of Elkins Construction’s Integrated Management System (IMS) to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
What’s your background?
I started my journey in the rail sector in 2009, working for Carillion as a general operative and worked my way up to Controller of Site Safety, before a slight change in career. Between 2012 and 2018, I worked in lifting operations in building construction, where I acquired a lot of knowledge, skill, experience, and qualifications that led to me becoming a lifting operation coordinator, controller, and planner (AP). Since 2019, I have been working as an HSEQ Advisor and, prior to joining Elkins, I was doing the same role for a different company, working across various HS2 projects and sites.
What are you enjoying most so far about your role?
It’s exciting to have new challenges and be exposed to different types of work than I’ve been used to, as well as receive support to progress and improve professionally. It’s also been great to have the opportunity to utilise the existing transferable skills I have acquired, which includes providing support, not only on HSEQ matters but also on lifting operation activities.
What appealed to you about the job?
In addition to the points mentioned above, I was looking to acquire more knowledge as part of my professional development. This role at Elkins offered me the opportunity to expand my knowledge, scope, and skill set.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spending quality time with the family, doing activities like playing football, basketball, and badminton with my two boys and/or having a movie night with the family, either at home or at the cinema.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Ambitious, kind, and caring.
