Elkins Construction is proud to be a long-standing supporter of CoLA Southwark Pride basketball team. Last year, we were pleased to make a donation to help provide new player kits for the current season, and we are delighted to have watched the team go from strength to strength, culminating recently in a brilliant performance by the women’s team in the National Basketball League (WNBL1).
In a nail-biting Division One Final, CoLA Southwark Pride came from ten points behind in the final quarter to claim victory over the Solent Kestrels at Manchester’s National Basketball Performance Centre.
The win not only secured the team their first D1W playoff title since 2016/17, they also made history as the first team ever made up completely of teenagers to secure the league and playoff double in the Women’s NBL Division One!
Southwark Pride’s coach, Jackson Gibbons, said, “I was way more emotional at the end of the game today than I usually am because I know the sacrifices this team has made to get here. I always want the programme to be about the kids, never about me, and I feel like today the girls really showed what they’re made of. They got themselves to victory.”
Gibbons’ contribution to the team’s success was recognised with his second consecutive win for Coach of the Year in the end of league awards, having achieved an impressive 20-2 record this season.
Isi Ozzy-Momodu was also highly awarded as one of the standout players of the season, winning Defensive Player of the Year and Under 19s Player of the Year, as well as taking a well-earned spot in Team of the Year and British Team of the Year. See the full list of awards from the season here.
Congratulations to the team on their fantastic recent achievements. We look forward to continuing to follow and support them in their upcoming endeavours.
