This is an excellent opportunity to join the
HSEQ team of an SME construction business based in South East London. You will be responsible for providing specialist Health and Safety Management at both a strategic and operational level across all projects.
Joining an existing team and reporting to the HSEQ Manager, this is a varied role with responsibility for a wide range of new build and refurbishment construction projects, so we are ideally looking for someone with previous experience in a high-risk industry sector.
Key responsibilities:- Lead, direct and provide expertise, support and advice on all health and safety matters
- Support the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of Elkins’ safety management system, including worker and third-party safety
- Cultivate an understanding and actively implement a culture of safety
- Compile, maintain and improve safety documentation together with the project teams
- Actively participate in and contribute to safety committees and other safety forums
- Plan, participate in, and implement projects and activities to improve safety
- Work closely with partners, including Elkins' subcontractors
- Monitor and develop safety risk management processes, tools, and practices
- Support safety-related change management projects and initiatives
- Collect, analyse and utilise leading and lagging safety data
- Monitor legal and business environment developments in safety, identify and implement relevant actions
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits to verify compliance, identify uncontrolled risks and deviations and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Manage corrective and preventive actions for continual improvement
- Proactively communicate safety information, including investigation outcomes and best practices
Skills and experience:- NEBOSH National Construction Certificate (minimum)
- IOSH Tech (minimum)
- Construction or engineering background
- Good knowledge of applicable safety regulations
- Good knowledge and experience of the ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001
- Problem-solving, incident management, auditing, and analysis skills
- People management, training, presentation, and communication skills
- Ability to work well in digital and mobile environments
- Project and change management skills
- Good communication skills in both written and spoken English
- Competent with Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
