What’s your job title?
Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Manager
What does your role involve?
As an HSEQ Manager, I’m responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental regulations, and quality control, on-site and at corporate level. I am also responsible for reviewing, developing and improving the organisation’s safety management system, ensuring that health and safety risks are identified, assessed and managed with appropriate control measures to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
What’s your background?
My previous experience relates to Fire and Risk Management, Fire Compartmentation, Residential Construction HSEQ Management, Civil Engineering HSEQ Management, Rail and London Underground HSEQ Management.
What are you enjoying most so far or most looking forward to about your role?
Health and Safety is a highly rewarding profession, involving supporting health and well-being and keeping workers safe, so they can return home to their loved ones. I love my profession and I do it with pride. Being able to influence people’s attitudes toward health and safety at work and encourage them to set a risk-free mentality is one of my greatest achievements. I look forward to getting to know every person working for Elkins Construction, regardless of their professional rank, and setting up engagements that will be delivered through innovation within a risk-free environment.
What appealed to you about the job?
The modular construction industry has been around since at least the early twentieth century, with a major spike after 1945. This type of construction is not tackled nowadays by the great majority of builders, although the market is foreseeing another spike in modular construction. Therefore, it seemed a great opportunity for me to upgrade my skill set and be able to lead the health and safety culture, helping the project team to deliver this type of construction incident free.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my family and helping my son develop new survival skills, we wander a lot through the local forest where we love observing the wildlife and talking about pirates and buried treasures. When I get solitary time I like to read a good book while I sip from a glass filled with Merlot or be in the gym keeping fit.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Motivated, professional, and friendly.
We’re off to the pub – what’s your order?
On a cold day, a nice dash of whisky, and all year round, a nice glass of Merlot.
